Announcement

We’re so excited to announce the successful breeding of two co-owned dogs of ours. Both of these dogs went to wonderful pet owners-turned dog breeders!! THIS is the goal! We cannot keep the Brittany thriving in Southern California without new breeders being encouraged and built up!

Penny Blossom (GCH CH Caliah’s Lotus Blossom Falls JHA CGC) was bred to Nalu (CH Caliah’s Coral Sea Nalu CDX CGC) and pups are expected later this month.

We helped but this has been all David Webb and Carrie Castro and their amazing dogs! We love both of these dogs and are so pleased to see the amazing temperaments, drive, biddable natures, and impeccable conformations this breeding produces.

This is Penny’s second litter and Nalu will have one litter born just days before this litter is expected.

A quick update, the puppies are both doing great and growing fast. One advantage of a small litter is the puppies do not have to compete for Momma’s Milk, they have been getting as much as they can handle.

If you have not been watching, the puppy cam is up and running. The puppies are generally in view, you will often see Penny tending to them. I do take them out of the whelping box a couple of times a day either weigh them, to provide them with ‘Superdog’ neurological stimulation or to just play with them.

As always, if you have any questions or just want to chat, please reach out.

Howdy everyone,

This is a long one…

We had an exciting and scary and happy and sad weekend. Penny’s litter came a couple of days early (they did arrive on my mom’s 80th birthday) but it was a difficult labor, not all of the puppies made it and Penny ended having a C-Section to delivery the final two puppies.

Penny is recovering well and taking fantastic care of her babies. She is feeding and caring for them diligently.

We have two healthy-looking boys. We are taking extra precautions with them as they are being kept in a makeshift incubator that Penny can fit into. So far they appear to be doing well.

I am so thankful for the Caliah Community especially Mary, who came down to assist with the litter, Rick and Hillary who also came down for the weekend to help out (even though Penny did not go into labor until after they had to leave), Shellie, for her “dial an expert” support and Carrie for her continued (and future) assistance.

I’m also so glad that my friends and neighbors stepped up to help where they could. Ronin is spending time with his sister, Peaches, and my neighbors helped with walking Mary’s puppies that are here for a show this coming weekend.

I know that you were all looking forward to getting a Brittany from this Penny litter, unfortunately, I will not be able to provide most of you with a puppy at this time. That said, there are a number of options for getting a quality Brittany.

First, you can stay on the list for one of the Penny’s two puppies. Once we get these guys through the first week or ten days, we can expect very healthy puppies. If you are interested in staying on the list, please reach out and we can discuss what we understand happened with the litter. Understand that due to the expenses for this litter, I am considering raising the price a bit.

Second, there are additional Caliah litters planned for later this year, you are all on the list of potential owners for puppies in these litters. Watch the https://www.caliahbrittanys.com/ website for updates on these litters.

Third, there are two other Brittany litters in SoCal right now. Both litters have a connection to Penny. The first litter was sired by the same stud that was used for Penny’s current litter. The other litter is from the same breeder that owns the sire from Penny’s first litter. Both of the families are long-time breeders who produce fantastic Brittanys and currently have puppies ‘on the ground’.

Bob West - 775.741.7266

I have reached out to both of the breeders to confirm that they currently have puppies available, you will have to reach out to them if you are interested in working with them. Just mention that you are from Penny’s list.

Please take some time to think about this and reach out to the other breeders. We just ask that you let us know what you decide to do.

Please keep Penny and her two pups in your thoughts.

As always, we are here to help however we can.

With just 15 day to go, Penny is doing great and getting bigger everyday. We have been getting the whelping area all setup and all the last minute supplies so that we are ready for the puppies.

It is time for me to start chatting with each of you. To help with the process, I have put created a sign-up sheet where you can pick a time that is convenient for you over the next ten days. The link to the sheet is below. Please place your last name in the column next to the time slot that you prefer.

Looking forward to chatting soon!

19-March-2021 - Pupdate #2

We have some big news, this week’s ultrasound confirmed that Penny is pregnant as the vet saw several embryos. The preparation process really starts now as the vet estimated the whelping date to be 20-April, even though I still feel that it could happen on the 19th.

I’ll be reaching out over the next couple of weeks to have a call with you. This call is just the start to building a relationship; it will help us understand what everyone is looking for in a puppy and is the start to us figuring out the best ‘fit’ for each the puppies.

I do have a favor to ask, please keep us updated on your search for a puppy, if you find a puppy from someone else, first congratulations, second, drop us a note so that we can keep our wait list updated.

As always, if you have any questions, please let us know.

4-March-2021 - Pupdate #1

I just wanted to touch base and confirm that you are on the wait list for a puppy from Penny.

This will be Penny and my second litter, she was a great mom to her seven puppies from her first litter, all of the dogs are doing great and two have AKC Hunt Test titles.

This breeding is being done under the umbrella of Caliah Brittanys with the assistance of Mary Brown and Shellie Sytsma the founders of Caliah Brittanys.

Penny is actually from Mary and Shellie’s first Caliah Brittanys' litter. The sire, Nalu, is also from Caliah Brittanys.

There are two website that provide a lot of good information about Penny and Caliah Brittanys.

https://www.pennyblossom.info/ https://www.caliahbrittanys.com/

Now for the timing of the litter, Penny was bred starting on Valentine’s Day. This means that, if she is pregnant, the puppies will be born the third week of April. Penny will raise the puppies for about nine weeks leading to a go-home date of Saturday 19-June.

Please understand that at this time we are not 100% sure that she is pregnant, we have an ultrasound in two weeks that will tell us if she is. Even with that, we will not know the number of puppies that we will have available until after they are born.

I will start reaching out to each of you after Penny is confirmed pregnant to start building a rapport and answering questions about the litter, Brittanys, puppies or anything else.

Please remember that myself, Shellie and Mary are here to answer any questions that you have, just let us know.
